Week 14: 26 September - 2 October

Oct. 1, 2022

Lots more progress this week! We have only 11 days to go until the main house starts so our builders are chugging away and aiming to get their part done both indoors and out.

You can see that they’re working again on Saturday and the retaining walls for the outdoor stairs are continuing to grow taller.

This is a better view of the stairs that will go up to the main entrance. Once they are done, the walls will be covered with a stone veneer so that you don’t see the ugly concrete bricks.

The retaining wall for the side stairs is going up, too.

You can see more of the stairs in progress and that the dirt around the edges of the basement is continuing to be filled in.

A view down on the stairs. You can also see the two small holes that will be where utilities come in. Underground utilities are the thing here, so no worries about storms knocking out power.

It’s hard to tell in this photo but another layer has been put on top of the base of the house. It’s a water proofing layer that’s been painted on.

Another view of the retaining wall for the side stairs.

This is where the internal u-shaped staircase will be to get from the main floor to the basement. The concrete blocks are for support.
This is the same home that I posted last time - our neighbors. I thought it would be nice to show a better view of the interior and exterior walls of their “standard” European build. Their house is also going to be a single level, so its footprint is quite larger than ours.
