Week 15: 3 - 9 October

Oct. 8, 2022

We’re only 5 days away from our house build start date! I think this is the third or fourth Saturday in a row that our guys have been on-site working and it has been so much fun watching the progress.

For those of you who have been keeping up each week, thank you! We are so excited and looking forward to having everyone visit once the house is done!

You can see that while there are still some supports in the garage, the majority of them are gone and the frame that was used to hold the concrete when the ceiling was originally poured is gone.

The outside stairs haven’t changed much in the past 3 days but there has been progress in other areas…
I didn’t mention it in earlier posts, but you’ll notice orange pipes at the corner of the house. This is for the rainwater collection. The EU requires rainwater to be collected into underground storage tanks which are then used for things like grass watering. We will actually have 3 different water sources in our home. We’ll have the rainwater retention tank, the well and also city water. We have it set up so that our toilets and outdoor water taps use the water from the retention tank. If the tank runs low, then there will be a sensor in it which will automatically pull water from the well so that we never run out of water. In the unlikely scenario that both our retention tank and well ran dry, we could still use the city water for toilets and outdoor taps.

This is the view from where our back door will be! Of course that pile of dirt won’t always be there.

Progress inside the garage can be seen and you can see the bare ceiling now that the structure used for pouring the concrete is gone.

Today was really interesting because, as you can see, they were building the basic frame that they’ll use to support the concrete stairs that they will be pouring. On the right of the concrete support wall, you can see the “ramp” that they’ve build to be the base and to the left of that wall, you can see the edges of where they’ll build it going forward.

I just felt like climbing the dirt piles for a better view of the house.

In the next 3 photos, you can see that they have already started to fill in the trench now that the pipes have been run up to the future chicken coop area. While we were there, we watched them as they used the little white bobcat to bring loads of dirt, fill them into the trench and then flatten it.

It’s hard to see, but that’s Stano and puppy in the upper part of the yard!
I haven’t posted many photos lately from the upper part of the yard, mainly because the huge piles of dirt block most of the view. So this is the view from the top of our property, looking down toward the house. You can see the end of the trench and the pipes coming out of it. The black one is for water and the red one is for internet and electricity.

I’m posting this one even though it’s not ours! This belongs to our neighbor and I just thought it was interesting because you can see the hole for his swimming pool on the right and the actual pool insert on the left.
