After being sick for a solid 3 weeks, we are on the mend! While still extremely tired, in general, we are feeling much better. There’s hope for the future!
We really enjoyed the trip over today and were able to have a nice walk through the house and also around the outside. Puppy got to have a good run around the yard and burn off some energy that she has been saving up while we were sick.
At a quick glance, not much happened this week but it’s really more of the boring stuff that isn’t nearly as obvious. Most of the work has involved tightening things up from an insulation and isolation perspective and a lot of work has been going into the windows and attic.
Exterior
I’m so happy to say that now that I’m feeling better I plan to head over there
one day next week to sort through the pile of junk that’s out front and pull
out all of the burnable wood and stack it. I know it’s a construction zone
but I hate having piles of trash everywhere, especially with a dumpster being
parked out front!
Stairwell
I braved the piles of foam today and headed upstairs.
Upstairs Landing
Nothing too new to see here, except more piles of foam have been brought
upstairs.
You can see in the two photos below more of the foam insulation that has been
added around the skylights.
Guest Bedroom
A view of the guest bedroom, where we hope you will be staying soon!
The skylight here has also had extra foam added.
And a nice view of Stano also checking out everything that’s been
happening upstairs.
Lauren’s Office/Sewing Room
Not too much changed here and inaccessible because the foam has been used to
create a stairway to the attic.
Attic
Another stairway made of foam, this time to the attic.
Attic
Attics are pretty boring but I figured I’d still share it. They have been spending a lot of time up here this week because, as you can see, there’s newly added insulation of various types up between the rafters and also down at the level where the floor meets the roof.
This first photo faces the left of the house. (Above the bathroom.)
This photo faces right (above the guest bedroom and Lauren’s office) and I was
surprised to see this tiny window up there which can be opened, presumably to
let out heat in the summer. You can also see the chimney in this photo.
Another view of the spaces between rafters and the insulation.
I thought these next two photos were interesting because they show some of the
connections for the rafters in the ceiling. This tiny space is the area
directly over our bedroom.
Exterior Again
I showed you last week what our neighbor’s swimming pool looked like but when
we were here today, I noticed that the cover was closed and thought I would
share a photo of it so you can see what it looks like when it’s closed. You
can better see the door and handle on the corner closest to the photo. That
way if you want to swim in cooler weather and have a heated pool, you can keep
the cover closed while you swim and reduce the heat loss.
